COMPARISON · UPDATED JULY 2026
By the Impromatrix consulting team – Odoo since 2020, ERP since 2011
We're an Odoo agency, so discount accordingly – but SAP Business One is a serious product that wins deals for legitimate reasons. Here's where each system genuinely fits, with the cost structures spelled out.
Five-year picture for 20 users, typical scope: Odoo Community ≈ implementation + ~10,000 € hosting/support. SAP B1 ≈ implementation + 60,000–110,000 € licences/maintenance. The gap is the licence structure, not the software's quality.
The big players run S/4HANA – a different product with a different codebase. Business One is SAP's SME line, acquired in 2002 and developed separately. It's good software, but buying it doesn't buy you corporate SAP; it buys you the brand plus a partner-dependent SME system. Worth knowing before the logo sways the decision.
Three honest cases. Your key customers or parent company mandate SAP-conformant processes and consolidation. A local B1 partner has a deep vertical add-on for exactly your industry – those verticals are B1's quiet strength. Or your market's banks and auditors treat SAP as the default and that credibility has commercial value to you.
Cost structure and freedom. No perpetual licences with maintenance percentages, no HANA infrastructure, CRM/website/manufacturing in the core instead of add-ons, and open-source code any Python developer can extend. Exit costs are a database export. The honest weakness: quality varies with the implementation partner, because there's no vendor enforcing methodology.
A standard migration project: master data (partners, products, BoMs, price lists) and open items (orders, invoices, stock) move into Odoo; historical documents stay in a read-only B1 archive or data warehouse. Companies switch at maintenance-renewal time, typically 2–4 months of project. We'll assess your case neutrally →
